WESTSIDE LIGHT RAIL 1992-98 Portland, Oregon The Westside Light Rail project was a highly collaborative project between a team of 5 artists, architects, engineers, agency and community. As a collaboration, we planned and designed 11 stations, incorporated art within them as well as heavily influencing much about station design, landscape, some urban planning and the artwork. As a member of the artist team, with Tad Savinar, Richard Turner, Bill Will and Mierle L. Ukeles, I worked on all 11 of the stations, with varying degrees of intensity or involvement depending upon the station. In many of the stations, it is difficult to see specifically what the artists’ influence was, but included were recognizable art elements. The art was primarily funded through the construction funds and incorporated within the construction documents so actual budgets are very hard to determine.
